Green Power Technologies' PF Switch-Assembly Series is a smart, low cost and simple solution for active power factor correction. The PF Switch-Assembly is a 5 pin TO220 device that includes a controller and power MOSFET in one package. It is based on GPT's innovative and patented PFC control concept that does not require the sensing of input voltage, and hence does not suffer from interferences caused by the noisy input voltage. A highly reliable, robust and efficient APFC front end can be easily and quickly designed by just adding a few devices to the PF Switch-Assembly. The PF Switch-Assembly Series assembly applies a multichip technology which enables a complete PFC solution with only the addition of a minimum number of external passive components. The PF Switch-Assembly provides a complete power factor stage for up to a 700W power level. Its' robust control circuitry and smart construction permits the placement of the input inductor and line diodes anywhere in the equipment's housing. This unique product frees the designer from dealing with control loops, compensation networks and greatly simplifies the PCB design. The PF Switch-Assembly based system is able to start up under full load conditions and maintains stable output voltage over a wide range of operating conditions. Integrated fast overvoltage protection, cycle-by-cycle and average overcurrent protection, and overtemperature protection, ensure high reliability even under rugged operating conditions. The PF Switch-Assembly is an excellent solution for low power applications such as ballasts, mobile computing adaptors and flat panel monitors.
